'Trocaire is the official overseas development agency of the Catholic Church in Ireland. It was set up by the Irish Catholic Bishops in 1973 to express the concern of the Irish Church for the suffering of the world's poorest and most oppressed people.'
The organisation aims to support long-term development projects overseas and provide emergency relief to countries in need. At the same time, Trocaire informs and educates the Irish public about the causes of poverty, and helps them to bring about positive changes.
This project is an interactive campaigning tool, a visual interface to a serious online message. Users sign a petition for a more equal world for women and become part of an ever expanding global village. The petition will be sent to the Irish and UK governments calling them to honour their commitments to a UN Resolution (pdf), which is yet to be enforced.
I was commissioned by Kevin Jardine (with whom i have previously worked at Greenpeace) to create a variety of tiles, which could fit together in any number of ways. Kevin then created the code to randomly generate villages, through which users can scroll, and read comments left by others.
